The George Clarke Award for Exceptional Commitment

BackgroundNorthern Division (was Region) has been approached by the daughter of a long standing Caravan Club member who wishes to sponsor an award in memory of her late father George Clarke.
Mr Clarke’s caravan ‘career’ is summarised below:- Joined the Caravan Club in 1955 and over the years was active at centre, regional and national level.
Initially held offices in Midland Centre and went on to become the first chairman of West Warwickshire Centre.  A memer of the National Rally, Events and Executive Committees
Was the voice behind the announcements at many National rallies
Acted as a judge for the Caravan Design Awards.
Received honorary life membership of the Club in 2002
Active in Northern Centres on moving up to East Yorkshire
Purpose of the awardTo honour exceptional commitment to caravanning / motorhome activities.  ‘Exceptional’ is very subjective and must be considered to be outstanding i.e. well above the norm.
Promotion of the awardIt is suggested this is promoted through Division & Centre websites and Facebook pages, Also Centre handbooks if produced
Frequency of PresentationIt is suggested that this is an annual award, taking the form of a trophy to be presented at the Northern Division AGM.  However as the award is for exceptional commitment, it is suggested that this only be presented in exceptional cases.  There may be a year where no nomination is received, or where in the judges’ opinion, commitment is not considered to be exceptional.
Eligibility and JudgingThe nature of the award is likely to favour club members who are and have been very active at centre or divisional level (not necessarily within Northern Division) over a number of years.   The following suggestions are made regarding eligibility to receive the award:- Restricted to Club members currently residing in the geographical area covered by the Centres which form Northern Division. Nomination may be received either through the Centre or direct to the Northern Division Administrator. Northern Division Team will consider the nominations received and agree whether an award should be made and the name of the person to receive the award.
Suggested RulesNominee must be a current Caravan and Motorhome Club member nominated by another current Caravan and Motorhome Club member (not an immediate relative) who resides within the Northern Division or a member of a Centre within the Northern Division at the time of nomination.  Nominations must be in writing clearly stating the exceptional commitment shown to caravanning / motorhome activities which merits the award.  This should be based on evidence.  Points 1 to 3 in the previous paragraph are also considered to be rules, but have not been repeated here. Whilst a member who has been nominated for the award (and not won it) can be nominated again in a subsequent year, no person who has won the award is eligible to win it again. The awards team decision is final and no feedback on why a particular nomination was unsuccessful will be given. The trophy will be held by the winner for approximately one year.  The winner will be responsible for returning the trophy to the Division Administrator by a date to be agreed.  Administrator to contact the member approximately 6 weeks before the next presentation to arrange for the trophy to be returned.

Nominations in writing must in the hands of the Divisional administrator by 23rd September 2026
